TANKER CHARTERING
Our Tanker Chartering Staff includes the following:
MICHAEL T. COREY - PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER
Started his brokerage career in 1979 in Sale and Purchase and quickly became
one of the industry's elite, successfully brokering the sale of
ships ranging from Container vessels to ULCC'S. In 1985 he moved
to the tanker chartering desk and within seven years was in a position
to start Southport Maritime Inc., in September 1992.
PETER J. TORNABEN
A founding partner and senior broker with a degree in finance, his professional
career started on Wall Street trading derivatives and related products
from 1984-1990. Prior to starting Southport Maritime Inc., he financed
Residual Fuel and Gas oil sales to the maritime community exposing
him to most international oil companies and ship owners.
JAMES GOUGHARY
A Senior Broker that has been with the company since its inception. He came
to Southport with a high desire to learn all facets of the Oil Industry.
Following in the Goughary family tradition, Jim has become one of
the leading United States Tanker Brokers specializing in refined
petroleum products.
LUIS A. TEWES
A senior broker who joined the company in 1994 after having spent three years
as Partner in his own tanker brokerage firm in Caracas. Prior to
that, he had spent ten years at Lagoven holding a variety of positions
in the firm including Chartering Manager. He is fluent in Spanish,
English and French.
JASON SHAH
Jason joined Southport in February 2002. He is a graduate of N.Y.
Maritime College, started his career at
OSG, and then went on to become Chartering Manager for Kodiak Maritime.
LARRY CIRILLO
Joined the company in 2000 as a Senior Broker. A graduate of New York State
Maritime College and having worked with major oil companies he adds
many years of experience and a further dimension to the team.
TRYGVE SKAAR
Trygve has recently joined Southport as Senior broker with primary focus on CPP. He brings with him over
30 years of experience in the shipping industry and specifically in tankers since 1981. The depth of his
experience has been accumulated in a variety of positions he has held, including senior level management
positions in such well respected companies as Odfjell, I.M. Skaugen, Trader Navigation and Clarksons.
He is fluent in Scandinavian languages and English.
MATTHEW COREY
Matt comes from a Ship Brokering family and is proud to be the 3rd generation in this industry. Graduating
from the University of Central Florida in 2008, he immediately attended all the Enercon Maritime courses in
New York relating to Tanker Chartering and Operations. After spending several months in Greece with Tanker
Owners, Matt is a welcome addition to the Southport team.
EDDIE TALAMANTES
Eddie Talamantes started his shipping career in 1997 on the Owner side
doing Operations and Chartering for Houston Shipping and later Arrow Tankers.
In 2003 he moved to the brokerage side and in early 2009 join Southport.
